This has got to be the heaviest, most-solid base for a seat ever built for a craft my size. Yes, I went overboard on this part of the project. The goal was to create a box to which I could attach a swivel seat. There was to be room enough for dock lines and fenders inside. I definitely achieved my design goal, except that the base weight about 20-pounds heavier than it has to.

The pieces to the base being epoxy coated prior to final assembly.

The completed captain's seat is quite comfortable, indeed. The seat and swivel base were purchased from Cabela's. The 2 x 4's you see at the box's base were added after sea trials-I needed more height to be able to see properly over the cabin while underway. Even though the lid is sealing, I still was able (not on purpose) to get a lot of water inside the base when it rained. I drilled several holes in the bottom of the base to make sure I would have proper drainage.
